About the event
Shamata is a venerable branch of meditation dating back before the time of the Buddha.
It recognises that our whole experience of life is mediated by our mind. And that the mind can be still and translucent or - like most of us - it can be like a bag of hyperactive ferrets!
It's very difficult to find happiness and be a good person when our 'mind-medium' is frothing and frenzied.
For this reason, yogis and meditators have explored the practices of soothing and stilling the mind. There is no second step necessary, because - when the mind is still - something amazing opens up. Something that we habitually miss under the million-mile-a-second firestorm of distraction.
Alistair has been working with his unruly mind for more than 20 years and in this weekend he shares some of the key instructions around mantra meditation and creates a space where - together - we can explore the magic of the still mind.
Suitable for beginners as well as more seasoned meditators.
