The Venue

Kagyu Samye Dzong Scarborough is a branch of the Kagyu Samye Ling Monastery in Scotland (, a Tibetan Buddhist Centre which was established in 1967 and now has branches and associated projects worldwide. This was co-founded by Choje Akong Tulku Rinpoche, who was a major figure in the transmission of Buddhism to the West.

Our aims are about helping people through providing a peaceful environment within which to meditate, develop mindfulness or to learn about Buddhism and feel supported in a compassionate space. We have exemplary teachers who are helping to bring the benefits of mindfulness, meditation, insight, wisdom and compassion into people’s everyday lives. All are welcome, whether you’re interested in developing a calmer and happier mind or you wish to study Buddhism more deeply or to learn about mindfulness and compassion, or to attend prayers to help alleviate suffering and develop compassion. You don’t need to be a Buddhist, we are a centre here for all, wishing to serve the community.
