Just watched mesmerising film by Jennifer Peedom, simply entitled River.
in the tradition of Koyaanasqatsi and Baraka it is mostly images set to beautiful string music (Tom Ades makes a magical appearance) though there is a narration from Robert Macfarlane read by Willem Dafoe.
but what images! So often these films rely on a few striking images milked for all their worth but River seems flooded with image after image.
there is one sequence of drone following a glacial melt river that is almost overwhelming in its speed and length. And others showing the interaction of humans and rivers which is so rich it made me laugh with joy.
key fact: there is more water in the atmosphere than in all the oceans and rivers combined
key quote: think like a river- be conscious of the downstream of time. Be good ancestors .
