The first teaching session of the 'new term' - September 2024 - and I was comparing Beingfulness, the practice we usually explore on a Monday, with the Abhidharma course my teacher Mingyur Rinpoche is teaching at the moment.
Ah still love the way you make meditation lighter, allow fun...yet be really seriously about it. @ nomeditationmonster
I tend to start manipulate my breath when I bring my awareness to it. Sounds have therefor been a really helpful way to anchor. I found that counting while visualising/ trying to hear a choir sing the numbers kept my mind enough occupied to not intervene with my breath. At one point I became aware I was counting in english and chose to switch to dutch. Interestingly that significanly change my emotions....
All in all I a good experience...I will certainly do this again
Yes, I’ve come to appreciate that “counting” is just a concatenation of mental forms, sounds, ideas, breath. All of which are the “stuff” that can interest us when we’re meditating. Where I got stuck before was “thinking” that only pure breath counted. The great release is to be interested in it all as an ocean of shitting phenomena and then to swim or float in it all.
Great to have you back, Alistair. I have always enjoyed working with the breath, at meditation, and use it , frequently, as my anchor. Imagining the numbers slowly disappearing, above my head, was a new experience. Loved it. Hope to be back at morning sessions soon.❤️❤️🙏
